13kg Abdominal Tumor Removed

35 years lady presented with history of weight loss, gradually increasing abdominal swelling and decreased food intake. On examination she was found to have huge abdominal swelling. She was evaluated with MRI abdomen and image guided biopsy.

MRI showed a very large intraabdominal mass of approx. 30X25cm. This mass was occupying almost whole of the abdomen and displacing all the organs to side. Its was not possible to confirm organ of origin. Image guided biopsy was not conclusive.

She was planned for surgery.

Abdominal tumor separated from surrounding adhesions and omentum.

Part of Omentum attached over surface taken along with the tumor.

All the blood supply secured safely.

Considering young age of patient, uterus was saved and tumor excised

The intraoperative frozen section confirms leiomyoma. The weight of tumor was found to be 13Kg. The post-surgery patient recovered well.
